A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Royal Road School believes in strong values, high expectations and a safe caring atmosphere in which children work hard and have fun.
The school has a strong focus on academic achievement. Staff work hard with each child to get to know them, their needs and to challenge each child to do their very best in a supportive atmosphere.
Values play a very important part in our school. SPARK which stands for Sustainability, Pride, Aroha, Respect and Kia Kaha, represents our values system. We have a rewards system that acknowledges children displaying these values and provides them with unique fun prizes to strive for.
Celebration is an important part of our school. Every term we have at least one school wide fun day. The children, staff and parents look forward to and enjoy these days.
Royal Road School is an Enviroschool and achieve Green Gold status in 2011. This is an achievement of which the school is very proud. We began our journey towards becoming a sustainable community in 2006. It is a journey that does not end as each year we work with the students on a range of projects and actions to both preserve and enhance our environment.
Review is an important part of our school culture. We are continually asking ourselves what we could do better and what worthwhile innovations we can bring into the school. Student and parent voice play an important part in these reviews.
The school has excellent facilities. At the beginning of 2012, as part of our ongoing play review, we have just completed our state of the art playground which children love. We must acknowledge the support of the AUT, WLT and Lion Foundation in making this possible.
We are always working to offer an ever increasing range of sporting, performance, cultural, and extra curricular activities for our students to have the opportunity to be involved in.
We have a very hard working and professional Teaching and Supporting staff that are dedicated to doing the very best they can for your child. They are involved in ongoing professional development. They are always reflecting on how they can be more effective in their jobs.
As well as dedicated teachers in the classroom we have three Reading Recovery teachers, a Maths Specialist Teacher and a Sustainability Teacher that is working with classes across the school.
